New to the Garden: Bell Peppers and Basil

Bell Peppers and Basil

In recent days I have acquired two new plants, and I am looking forward to seeing them grow. One is a Bell Pepper plant, and one is a Basil plant.

I have grown basil well in the past, and I am including some images of my basil from 2020. Growing basil is quite easy. To grow in good volumes, they need a sizeable pot that will enable them to expand rapidly. Basil also needs sunlight and a warm climate to grow effectively, along with some water daily.

My basil in 2020 was in a location with lots of light, but no direct sunlight. The plant seemed to enjoy that setup, as long as I watered it regularly. If I skipped watering for a few days, it usually starts showing signs of leaf wilting immediately.

This time, I have decided to move it right away in a larger pot and placed it in a spot with direct sunlight. At the time of writing, it does not seem that the newly purchased basil enjoyed this new setup, although it could be because the weather is still a little cold in early March. It is well known that basil plants do not do well in cold weather.

If the experiment with the direct sunlight does not work, I might move it inside where it is warmer for the time being. I will let you know how it goes!

On the other hand, it is my first-time growing bell peppers, and I am really excited. I have decided to locate the plant in a spot where it gets around 3 to 4 hours of direct sunlight. Whilst the plant is very young, I think it has the right setup to grow nice and strong.
